Meet the Founder

Hi! I'm Alicia Blount. While growing up Lithonia, GA as a young girl, I found a deep love for upcycling and reworking clothing in my wardrobe. It was a way for me to make my ordinary clothes cool and fun looking. My go-to design tools were scissors, bleach, sometimes tie-dye and always my creative vision.

Just as much as I loved upcyling, I loved the thought of becoming an entrepreneur. I'm not sure where my inspiration came from, but it was always there. Fast forward many years later to 2019, I finally made my dream come true. I blended my desire to become an entrepreneur with my passion for upcycling fashion. That's when Yellow Blanket was born. After taking a month long sewing class at Fabriate Studios in Atlanta, GA I sewed the first pair of Yellow Blanket shorts using my Rihanna Anti World Tour concert t-shirt and 21 savage concert t-shirt. Check them out here!

GSU x YB

Georgia State University was a HUGE part of Yellow Blanket's growth as a newborn company. YB was one of the 15 companies to be accepted into the Main Street Entrepreneurship Seed Fund (MSESF) Program, a six-month business accelerator program. Participants receive seed funding, targeted workshops, mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs and industry professionals, networking opportunities, intensive coaching by Entrepreneurs-in-Residence, and access to the Atlanta entrepreneurial ecosystem. Visit my YB commencement story here

Lastly, because this is the meet the founder page, I'd also like to share with you some fun facts about myself so you can get to know me beyond my work.

Beyond YB

  • A few of my favorite songs are: Chamber of Reflection by Mac Demarco, Day 'N' Nite by Kid Cudi and Fool Around by Strongboi.
  • Before wanting to be an entrepreneur, I wanted to be a chef. I even had a birthday party at Young Chefs Academy as a kid. At the time, my favorite TV show was Racheal Rae (Rae is also my middle name) on the Foods Network Channel. It came on channel 57 if you had Comcast.
  • I'm a tennis player. I've played for over 15 years.
